You ask, “Is there a way for me to leave this group.” Well, you simply do NOT log onto this set of Boards, this web site and that is that. I don’t know if you are aware of the various “ignore features” but if you have found person(s) of interest that you enjoy communicating with here then you certainly could private note with them and not have to listen as it were to all the various comments that you find offensive by simply placing the ones that offend you on ignore. The thing though is that ones “Christian” in belief are also given to swear from time to time. Also there is the Safe Haven Board where it is my understanding that swearing is to be more so kept to a minimal though I can not vouch for this but that might be a place you would start. There are some professed Christians on this set of Boards and whether or not you have encountered them, well, perhaps through this Post of yours you will be enabled to meet with them? If you are seeking “perfection” though in others this may not be easy…we all have our flaws and some more than others. I know I am personally not in a place to cast stones at another. I sympathize with you hope and understand how you feel. I mostly try to read the nicer people's posts and try to just skip the swearers if I can. They don't delete accounts here, so if you don't want to get site updates, go to where it says, my account, and there's an option that says, notify me of site updates, or something like that, then uncheck that box. You can go in to the mail options and set it so no one can send you email from the site, though since I've never had to use it, I'm not sure where it is. Take care and the best of luck to you. The only reason I'm still here is there are about a handful of nice people. Take care,
wonderwoman

yes i understand how you feel!

there is always the option to turn quicknotes off so you don't have to hear it

Hello, Emma. I am Mel, and I am a Christian too. As I am young in my faith, I am actually fixing a cussing problem. But anyway, there is an ignore feature, and you can always turn public QuickNotes off. I try not to ignore anyone unless they are mean to me or one of my friends, but that's just me. Also, if I see something with the subject matter of sex or that I know has a bunch of cusswords, just as I have the choice to read the prayer chain or not, I have the choice to read that or not. I just kinda bypass that type of stuff if I know I've got a good idea what's in it. This site, having freedom of speech to the max, can range in topic from cars and computers, to sex, to Christianity and whatnot. There are certain categories on the front page of the boards--you may be interested in Safe Haven and the Religion Topics within the Safe Haven board. Hope this helps. God bless, Mel.

Let me ask you this HT. How do you avoid swearing in the real world. After all its largely gratutious, and compared to real life, there isn't really that much on here..if you don't like swearing I can see you constantly on the move in an effort to avoid it.

Post 9 by Toonhead71 (move over school!) on Saturday, 15-Oct-2005 13:54:22

I don't mean to sound harsh here. But in your original post, you say God doesn't like swearing. We really have no way of knowing that, so I think a better way to say it is that *you* don't like swearing. Hey, that's understandable. Not everybody likes it. So as others have said, go into your options and turn off public quicknotes so that you can play the games, post on the boards (The safe hhaven board would be a good place for you), so you could just do that. That way, you would have the best of both worlds. You could hang out here and you could avoid most of, if not all the swearing.

This makes me sick. Do you hear us posting a board saying that we don't like hearing the christian stuff? that we find it offensive, those of us who don't believe it? We have to put up with users who thrust it in your face by simply having a religious reference in their username, and we have the same options as do you. Either click the ignore link by the users name, or simply stop logging in. Yes you will find like minded people here, but you will also find many who disagree with you, either grow up and deal the way you would in the real world, or go find a safe place to hide.

Thank you to the last Ausi person! My friend Maria is from Australia! But's that's another story! Why don't they let you get rid of your account? And you are right my post doesn't have anything to do with religion!

Post 15 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Monday, 17-Oct-2005 22:25:25

It's the way the database was designed we need user id's for stuff like board posts and such to work, and if they removed your account they'd have to remove the user id which would mess things up.

Post 16 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Monday, 17-Oct-2005 22:34:15

that's true BG .. and yes think I may know the Maria you're referring too.

Post 17 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Tuesday, 18-Oct-2005 3:57:41

Hang on, while the board itself wasn't set up to be about religion, in the initial post the reason given was that she was christian, and god didn't like the swearing, if that's not making it partly about religion then I'm confused.

Post 18 by JGriffith (I'm a grain of sand on a beach of insanity.) on Tuesday, 18-Oct-2005 5:57:49

I have to agree with BlackBird. The original post was a request to leave the group because this person is a Christian and because God doesn't like swearing. I wonder what exactly does define the word swearing. Is it saying God damn it instead of gosh darn it? Is it saying fuck it instead of the heck with it. Let's face it. It's the intent behind what we said and not the arrangement of some letters. I don't know any person who doesn't let something slip when something startles them, or when they run into the wall, etcetera. The big difference is that most people don't beat around the bush when they say exactly what they mean. If they mean fuck it, then they mean fuckit and so on. Just my thoughts -- JGriffith

I would like to add one more thing. Please don't judge everybody based on what a few people have said. There are some good people on the zone and there are some people who I would not piss on if they were on fire, to save their lives, but that is what the ignore features are there for. The admins work hard to provide a community that everybody can enjoy and to give us options to exclude the things we don't like or find offensive. Thank you. -- JGriffith

Well said j grifith, though we can't delete your account, we can disable it if you wish. But yeah, this entire thing is, hmmm, how shal I put this, bull defication. Utilize the ignore features provided on this site, that's why they are there and just relax. Again, if you want your account disabled, we can do that PM me and let me know if you want that. End of story.

Post 25 by Luce (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2005 10:38:04

I agree! How did one random question turn into such a bitching contest?! Oops... hope I aren't offending anyone with my swearing 8-). The thing has been said over and over again. Number one, if you don't like the swearing and how people are, either put them on ignore or don't log into the zone. But if we ignored everyone that swore or did something we didn't agree with, then we'd pretty much be ignoring everyone! Like if you don't want to hear about sex, then don't enter the sex addicts annonymous board! Number two, clearly as the reason for wanting to leave the group was given because the person was Christian and God doesn't like swearing, then it obviously does bring religion into the equation, which is a fair point for others to comment on as I see it. But then Christianity is a way of life, and people live how they think God would like, so I don't think it is entirely fair to jump on a person's belief of religion and so forth. Many non-religious people don't wish to be judged by Christians or people of other religions, the same goes, in that it is hardly fair to judge someone's belief's because they are a Christian. It is a little hypocritical. I am not Christian, and to be honest, I have no problem with religion as long as it doesn't affect me. I'm not religious and don't claim to be, the things that piss me off about religious people is when they try to ram their thoughts and beliefs into you. I hold no judgement over how you wish to live your life, so please have the same courstesy for me. Live and let live is what I say, providing we aren't judgemental and interferring in other people's lives. Agreed, let's not turn this into a right or wrong, religious debate. We all have a fair point in expressing what we like and don't like, and if people aren't your cup of tea, then just put them on ignore, or just ignore what they say, and get on with your life! It is untrealistic to think that we can ignore everyone that does something we don't like, as humans we have to except and move on. If I don't like clubs or pubs, then I don't go, or if I don't like smoking, then I avoid smoky environments... it's the best policy!
